Wow, what a summer we’ve had! Now that this year’s Summer Camp is over, where our Troop earned a total of over 100 Merit Badges, you are probably gearing up for September, when we start our weekly meetings again.

Mr. Larson and I have picked what we think are four of the easiest Merit Badges to earn on your own, and provided links for the worksheets to help you complete them.

Get ready to start again this September… and complete a Merit Badge or two (…or three or four) on your own this summer!

(please note: all links will open in a new window or tab)

Art

Out of the 30-something Merit Badges I’ve earned, Art was probably the easiest. It took me only a couple hours to complete the requirements of painting, drawing, etc. This Merit Badge is an easy, get-it-done-in-a-day type badge.

Tracking

This Merit Badge is exclusive to this year. It is a part of the Historic Merit Badge Program, which brought back four previously discontinued Merit Badges. “Stalking” was discontinued in 1952, and was brought back this year in the form of “Tracking.” You must complete this badge by December 31, 2010.

Pets

This one seems to be the easiest, if you have a pet. All you have to do is care for your pet for 4 months (and show proof you did), write 200 words about your pet, show you’ve read a book about your type of pet, and teach your pet three tricks. Pretty easy, huh? :D

Pathfinding

This Merit Badge is also a part of the Historic Merit Badge Program, which brought back four previously discontinued Merit Badges. Pathfinding was also discontinued in 1952. You must complete this badge by December 31, 2010.

This is also a very easy Merit Badge, if you know the area fairly well. For all of the requirements, you are required to mark locations down on a map surrounding your “local Scout headquarters” (the Legion), within a two mile radius. This map does not have to be drawn by you, so we recommend you use this map, located on Google Maps.
